Higher speeds give me smoother cuts on pine and cedar. Drop it down for oak or walnut, and I get less heat buildup, less blade wandering, cleaner edges.

It’s not just about finish quality. The wrong speed burns blades, builds up nasty resin, and wastes money.

If you cut both hard and soft woods, skip single-speed saws. Pay slightly more for dual-speed. Your blades last longer, your cuts look better, and you’ll stop cursing at scorch marks.
